Girl with a Pearl Earring, by Tracy Chevalier

Read and reviewed in January, 2003. No longer in my possession.

This is a very good book with an interesting, fast-moving plot. It is a fictionalized account of the 17th century Dutch artist, Johannes Vermeer, told from the point of view of the model in one of his paintings, "Griet," a maid in his household. The story benefits from the author's very thorough research of 17th century Netherlands and of Vermeer and his hometown, Delft.

We were fortunate enough to have visited Delft a few years ago. Lovely city!
