The Irish Game: A True Story of Crime and Art, by Matthew Hart

Read and reviewed in September, 2013

Much more interesting than I expected!
A true story of professional art thieves, the art collectors who are their victims, and the paintings and other pieces of fine art which are the objects of the collectors' and the thieves' desire.

Girl with a Pearl Earring, by Tracy Chevalier

Read and reviewed in January, 2003. No longer in my possession.

This is a very good book with an interesting, fast-moving plot. It is a fictionalized account of the 17th century Dutch artist, Johannes Vermeer, told from the point of view of the model in one of his paintings, "Griet," a maid in his household. The story benefits from the author's very thorough research of 17th century Netherlands and of Vermeer and his hometown, Delft.

We were fortunate enough to have visited Delft a few years ago. Lovely city!
