A novel with African American and Christian themes. A young woman in rural Mississippi in the year 1919 is forced to leave her family and community. She goes to stay with an aunt who runs a Christian mission in Chicago. Her faith has been tested and almost unraveled due to actions of racial bigotry and hate. Her life is turned around in Chicago.

Freeborn Slave: Diary of a Black Man in the South, by Jasper Rastus Nall

Read and reviewed in October, 2004

According to the blurb, this is from a series of dictated memoirs transcribed by Mr. Nall's daughter in 1936. "Freeborn Slave is both a fascinating read and a living profile in African American history."

It was very interesting book, and a fast read. Mr. Nall led a hard and often painful life, but he made the most of every opportunity, and did not hold grudges against those who had done him wrong.

I have sent the book to my son to read and donate to the Civil Rights Institute in Birmingham, AL, USA.

Promises Beyond Jordan, by Vanessa Davis Griggs

I read and reviewed this book on Bookcrossing in September, 2002. It has been "released in the wild" via Bookcrossing, and has not been heard from to date.

I enjoyed this book very much. It is a Christian romance about African-Americans. The characters are very well-written, and there are many surprising twists and turns in the plot. It will keep you guessing! I plan to release it into the wild today.
